Dresser Makeover; Two Pieces of Furniture Made From One Dresser

This is just a quick post to show you a small part of what I have been up to lately.  Remember the dresser that I cut in half.

I used the top half to make a vanity (not yet finished, still need to add the sink), see that makeover here and here,

and today I am going to show you what I did with the bottom half.  I took a scrap piece of plywood, added some nice thick foam and wrapped it with some beautiful fabric.  I attached it to the top of the single drawer unit, and voila, a nice bench for an entrance or the foot of a bed, with storage!

Two pieces of furniture out of an old dresser, gotta say, the frugal side of me loves this!

The House That Budd Built; Part II; Construction

We couldn't get rid of the old house completely in the beginning because we had to protect the electricity.  So the new build began.  Garage first, men's priorities can be  little different than women's.

But the rest soon followed, and the old house is completely gone!

Yup, I'm pretty sure we are going to have one of these pics in all builds that we do.

I think he may be related to Spiderman, probably on my side of the family, ha ha.

This is hard work, but we have made memories that will not soon be forgotten.

The days got shorter and shorter.  One evening a man that lives down the road stopped and gave us some lights to use because he couldn't stand seeing us working in the dark.  You gotta love small towns!

And a friend that we went to school with saw us roofing and brought his nail gun and compressor and lent a helping hand for a couple of days. People can be great eh?

Tear down began in October and we put the roof on in November, not bad for weekend warriors!  A day or two after we got the shingles finished, the snow came, and stayed.  God blessed us with a very warm and late Fall!  We were so lucky!

The House That Budd Built; Part I; Demo

Budd bought a house that he planned to gut and remodel.

Unfortunately the more demo that we did, the worse it got.  We knew there were roof issues when he bought it, and we knew that it had a few additions, what we didn't know was that none of it had been done properly.  It came to a point where we decided he was further ahead to tear it down, saving the floor and the basement.  And so down it came, piece by piece so as not to damage the floor.
We started on one end...

then moved to the other end.

Piece by piece.

Just visiting to check out the progress.

Gradually the original little house emerged.  It brought back some memories for neighbours who have lived in the area for many years.

Happy Mother's Day!!! I Love You Mom!!!

I thought I would share a few pictures of my Mom today. I am so blessed to have been born to this woman. She has been an anchor in our lives, and I couldn't and wouldn't ask for another person to call Mom.

My Mom, and Dad on left.

Wedding day!

Mom with my two big brothers, Bob and Jay.

Mom and me.

The baby (Jay) in the second last photo, is now the oldest in this photo, and I am the baby.  Wow, a lot can change in five years!
In the foreground from the left, Me, Penney, Leata, Jay (Bob is missing)

Here she looks like one of the kids, rather than the Mom.

When Johnny saw this pic this morning he thought it was Leata holding Nicole, but nope, Leata is as the top of the pile and Mom holding Nicole (She was 41 in this pic and the baby on her lap is her seventh child).

A more recent pic, she was over 80 in this photo.
An outing with a couple of daughters and granddaughters.  After walking a mile through the bush.

And a photo of my beautiful family, the people who made me a Mom, I love you all more than you will ever know.  Not only are they gorgeous on the outside, but on the inside too.

Dresser to Bathroom Vanity; Part II

Once I had the dresser together I painted it black.

I picked out a design from my Silhouette library and manipulated it to fit the front of the dresser.  I love the black on black, adds character, yet subtle.

I added some drawer pulls.

That's it for now, next step is to remake the drawer to allow for the plumbing and add a sink and taps to the top, ...soon, ...soon.
