Resting on My Laurels, Part III; Antique Buffet Makeover

This is an old side table/buffet.  My daughter also picked this up for me from Kijiji..  She's is great, she ignores her Dad's plea to not buy me anymore junk.  She just needs a bigger place to live (to store said "junk") and a truck to haul it.

Before

This project sort of evolved into what it is now. I started out by painting the whole thing a pale lime green, then painted on silver cherry blossom branches on it.  I was quite happy with it, then I decided to "antique" it with brown paint.  It was disastrous!  I was so disheartened after painting on three coats of paint and then the cherry blossoms :( so sad!  So I took the spray can to it.  I sprayed the whole thing silver (do you see a trend here with the silver?) and wallpapered it with some wallpaper that I had picked up for another project and hadn't used yet.  I am thrilled with it!  Although I was quite happy with the green and silver I love this so much more!  It is very rich looking.  I just love it!  I sprayed some old brassy drawer pulls silver for the doors, and put crystal knobs on the drawers.  However, when I take the 5 minutes it will require to do it, I will switch the larger knobs from the end tables.  But that will be another day.

Resting on My Laurels, Part I; Headboard Makeover

As I learn more about blogging, I have decided it is better for me to have only one project per post, therefore I am going to go back to the beginning and seperate some of my earlier posts.

This is another piece that goes back 30 years.  This is the original headboard from our first bedroom suite.  We still have one of the dressers in our bedroom, which I hate!  I have plans for it though ;) This is what I started with, I think this is actually the footboard, but the headboard is just a little taller. I added batting and fabric, then used molding to completely change the look.  I am so happy with how it turned out.

I love it now!  I will add a picture when I get it set up properly with a box spring and mattress.

All Dressed Up With No Place to Go; youth desk makeover

I have had this desk downstairs in the Rec room, usually the TV sits atop it.  Nothing is safe from my paint brush these days, ha ha.

This new look was inspired by three different things.
1) I have been wanting to try out homemade chalk paint that I've been seeing on the net.
2) Honey Sweet Home painted a gorgeous dresser with black and white colour combination, and I LOVE it, simple but stunning, go here The Tuxedo Dresser - A Black & White Makeover  to check it out.
3) House Revival made some knobs using paper doilies, that I thought were pretty cute, go here http://www.houserevivals.blogspot.ca/2012/08/lace-filigree-cabinet-knobs.html to check them out.  I thought I could fancy up the knobs from this desk a little, instead of changing them out completely.
I mixed up the chalk paint, I didn't use black, but a very dark gray.  I cut shelves out of some laminated pine shelving that I had, and hung them on shelf hanger hardware.  Since it isn't being used as a desk, there might as well be shelves, they are perfect for dvd players, gaming console, etc if I put a TV on it.

I used a piece of jewellery finding that I had, flattened it out, and glued it to the centre of the knob.

I had every intention of scuffing this up a little bit, but it was so crisp and nice looking, I just couldn't do it.  I am going to finish it with satin Diamond Elite instead.
