All Dressed Up With No Place to Go; youth desk makeover

I have had this desk downstairs in the Rec room, usually the TV sits atop it.  Nothing is safe from my paint brush these days, ha ha.

This new look was inspired by three different things.
1) I have been wanting to try out homemade chalk paint that I've been seeing on the net.
2) Honey Sweet Home painted a gorgeous dresser with black and white colour combination, and I LOVE it, simple but stunning, go here The Tuxedo Dresser - A Black & White Makeover  to check it out.
3) House Revival made some knobs using paper doilies, that I thought were pretty cute, go here http://www.houserevivals.blogspot.ca/2012/08/lace-filigree-cabinet-knobs.html to check them out.  I thought I could fancy up the knobs from this desk a little, instead of changing them out completely.
I mixed up the chalk paint, I didn't use black, but a very dark gray.  I cut shelves out of some laminated pine shelving that I had, and hung them on shelf hanger hardware.  Since it isn't being used as a desk, there might as well be shelves, they are perfect for dvd players, gaming console, etc if I put a TV on it.

I used a piece of jewellery finding that I had, flattened it out, and glued it to the centre of the knob.

I had every intention of scuffing this up a little bit, but it was so crisp and nice looking, I just couldn't do it.  I am going to finish it with satin Diamond Elite instead.

  4. Hi Samaa, thanks for the inspiration! The jewellery that I added is just some jewellery findings that I had in my stash, you should be able to find them anywhere you buy jewellery findings, I probably got mine from ebay because I don't have much opportunity for shopping locally.
