Painted Wood Grain Floor; Camp

Oh how I wish I had a before picture to show you.  There is soooo much I would like to do at camp, some will happen, some will not.  This one was pretty major, and made such a big difference. When we bought our camp it was heavily decorated in yellow.  Yellow everywhere! And sunflowers!  It is a small, simple camp, three rooms, two tiny bedrooms and a larger room for living/dining/kitchen, and the sunflowers were more than a little overwhelming. The whole floor was painted bright yellow!  Bright!  Oh why did I not take a picture?
I painted the whole floor sort of a medium rusty brown, I let it dry, and then painted it over one workable area at a time with dark brown.  While it was still wet I dragged a graining tool over it.  I still need to draw in some cracks with a thicker permanent marker.  In one of the bedrooms I drew them on, but the line came out too thin.  I think it looks more like laminate flooring rather than real hard wood, but I can tell you it looks a lot better than bright yellow!

Every time I walk in, I'm surprised by the floor, I always forget that it is finally toned down.Pin It

  1. Why can't you just paint it one solid color like any normal person would? You are awesome! But I still see a little yellow and some sunflowers! :)

  3. Hard to believe this is a little cabin in the middle of the bush. Pretty fancy floors Miss Faye! Very pretty. If only I had an ounce of your patience or creativity. - Sarah

  4. WOW. That is REALLY impressive. I can't believe your floor used to be yellow and all you did was paint it and that's the look you got. Incredible job.

  5. This is amazing! I have been looking for this exact thing with instructions for our CAMP house! Simple and straightforward. Going to attempt it this weekend. One question though, did you put a clear top coat on it? And did you use oil base paint.

    1. Thanks for looking, I used Porch and Floor paint, I think it might be enamel, not oil based for sure. I did not top coat it since that is what it's made for, time will tell I guess.
